The first female meijin retire from the board

Takojima Akiko (71) will put down the pieces and retire from the professional shogi world on this season. Karolina Styczynska becomes first foreign female shogi player in Japan

Karolina won yesterday’s game against Sadamasu Minami, with this victory, Karolina, fulfilled the conditions for her grade up from 3kyuu to 2kyuu. She was born in Poland and nowadays she is studying at the university of Yamanashi in Japan. A few years ago she discovered the Shogi thanks to the anime Naruto and became a strong player in Europe.
