Tendokoma: The culture of shogi pieces at the city of Tendo.

I found this video that talks about the culture of the shogi pieces craftsmanship of the city of Tendo.

On this video, they explain some different ways to make shogi pieces.

Kijizukuri is the first step. A selected wood put to dry for 5 years it’s cut to make the shape of the pieces.

Kakikoma is the pieces that are nor carved but written directly at the wood.

Horikoma is the pieces that have the name of the piece carved directly into the wood.

Horiume/Moriagegoma are the pieces that after carved are filled with a resin and polished.

During my visit to Tendo, I was able to talk with some of the craftsmanship that appears in this video. Even I appears a few videos on this video talking with Mr. Sakurai about his artworks! You can see me at the minute 5:20.
