The days 29 of April and 3 to 5 of May are National days in Japan. This is known as Golden Week” in Japan and is the longest vacation period for many japanese workers. This is the reason why there are many shogi events for these days.
In Yokohama, the city where I live, there is an annual event in the TVK Housing Plaza. This is the biggest housing exposition area in Japan.
There was a game between Moriuchi and Miura and the visit of the feminine player Nagasawa Chikako. She has debuted in the musical scene with the production of the song Sendagaya Elegy (千駄ヶ谷エレジー).
There is a big tournament open-sky and many professionals offer simultaneous games. This time I assisted with my son so I couldn’t play any game but we got the sign of Muroya Yuki. On the sign, there is also written the phrase 一期一会 (ichigo ichie) that means in Japanese “Carpe Diem” or Once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. This is for emphasizing the importance of meeting someone because there is a chance you never met him again.
This signs are very usual in shogi, I also got one from Matsumoto at the X’mas party.
